uFits: free open-source Quick Look plugin previews astronomy FITS files on macOS
mjuric · x · 2026-10-12
uFits is a free, open-source macOS Quick Look extension for astronomy files (.fits, .fz, .xisf, X-ray formats). Press Space in Finder to preview images with auto-stretch, data cubes with a plane slider, spectra and light curves, catalogs on a sky map, million-row tables, and searchable headers. It reads only the file portion being shown, so huge files open instantly. Just 1 MB, runs on Apple silicon and Intel (macOS 11+), self-updates, and installs via one curl command.
