AI is turning software lock-in into a choice as small teams rebuild Adobe-style tools
DavidLinthicum · x · 2026-10-12
Cloud analyst David Linthicum argues AI is eroding the premium-subscription lock-in of major software vendors. Small teams can now build and iterate far faster: open-source efforts like ArtCraft target Adobe-style tools, while WordCraft, GridCraft and DeckCraft aim at Word, Excel and PowerPoint workflows. Still experiments, not mature replacements, but they show how quickly the competitive landscape could shift — lock-in is becoming a choice.
