ByteDance demos world model: fly through, edit and portal between AI-generated 3D scenes

Quantumbit reports ByteDance gave its world model a surprise first public demo at Douyin's 2026 tech gala, operated by filmmaker Tim from影视飓风.
- Capabilities shown: a one-sentence prompt generates an explorable miniature 3D room the user can fly through with mouse and keyboard; objects (like a spoon) can be conjured and physically interacted with; an "any-door" feature links unrelated scenes, e.g. a room directly into outer space.
- How it works: the article uses Fei-Fei Li's renderer/simulator/planner taxonomy to explain the gap from video generation — the model must maintain spatial consistency, update scene state in real time, and predict the consequences of actions.
- Industrial value: world models can synthesize rare driving scenarios for autonomous driving training and let robots rehearse tasks in virtual homes cheaply; both demos were shown live.
- Landscape: overseas players include World Labs, Google Genie and NVIDIA Cosmos (paired with Isaac Sim); AMD announced an $8.2B World Labs acquisition in September; ByteDance builds on its Seedance video and Seedream image models' spatial-editing strengths.
