Times reporter fails Synthesia's AI roleplay, scoring 57% in a tough talk

Times reporter Niamh Curran tested Synthesia's new Roleplay Sessions by having a difficult performance conversation with "Laura Jensen," an AI-generated employee, about her promotion path. The system scored her 57% because she failed to fully explain how Laura could improve.
Synthesia's alexvoica says this is what makes Sessions different: training videos show what a hard conversation looks like, but an interactive avatar that responds to what you actually say quickly exposes a manager's real communication gaps. The product targets corporate training scenarios like performance reviews.
