Linus Torvalds is using Claude Code on a hefty Linux kernel performance improvement

Phoronix reports that Linus Torvalds is working on a hefty Linux kernel improvement with Claude Code. The accompanying benchmark chart shows large read-performance gains from the optimized (readahead series) path: 10M reads/s to 31.5M reads/s at 8 threads, and 10M to 25.5M reads/s at 4 threads per core.
A rare case of the top kernel maintainer applying an AI coding tool to core systems development — and further evidence of Claude Code's usefulness on systems-level C code.
