Google testing new Flash-Lite checkpoints as Gemini Pro tier stays frozen for 235 days
lyraxana · x · 2026-10-12
Lyraxana leaks that Google is working on an updated Flash-Lite model, citing a teamfood checkpoint abc-hillclimbing on Sep 3 and internal checkpoints moonbrook (Sep 4) and sunspire (Sep 5) — unverified.
Quoting StatsWire: Gemini 3.1 Pro shipped 235 days ago, and since then Google has released at least five Flash models (3.1 Flash-Lite → 3.5 → 3.6 → 3.7 → 3.8), while OpenAI shipped multiple GPT-6 variants (Astra, Sol, Luna…) and Anthropic rolled out Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5, Haiku 5.5 + Fable 5. Google is the only major lab keeping its Pro tier frozen while everyone else moves the frontier.
