Shanghai-based model startup MOSI, founded by Fudan professor Qiu Xipeng of the OpenMOSS team (which released China's first ChatGPT-like open model MOSS), announced a Pre-A round exceeding 1 billion RMB ($140M), led by Hua Capital-controlled Tsinghua-affiliated fund Huakong, following a several-hundred-million RMB angel round in March. MOSI differentiates by focusing on speech, vision, and full-modal real-time interaction rather than general LLMs: it has shipped 20+ models in half a year (MOSS-TTS, MOSS-Audio, MOSS-VL, MOVA) and is about to launch MOSSLive, a real-time interaction system targeting AI glasses, smart cars, and robots, plus an 'AI for AI' data-production pipeline. CEO Li Shimin came from Qiu's research group.
