Micro TECs for ELS optical modules could be a $200-600M market by 2028
jwt0625 · x · 2026-10-12
A market sizing for micro thermoelectric coolers (TECs) used in external light source (ELS) optical modules:
- 2026: 0.1M ELSFPs, 0.2M TECs (0.1-0.6M range), under $5M at $10-20 each
- 2027: 3-5M ELSFPs, 6-10M TECs (3-40M range), $60-200M
- 2028: 11-15M ELSFPs, 22-30M TECs (11-120M range), $200-600M
Supply notes: most bismuth and tellurium come from a handful of suppliers; most tellurium goes into solar panels, almost entirely to First Solar. Most micro TECs still go into pluggables, and the total market may shrink as one TEC controls more lanes and more powerful lasers.
