VectorDash: open-source Windows 11 search replacement powered by EmbeddingGemma 2
andy2na · reddit · 2026-10-12
An open-source project aiming to fully replace Windows 11 search, inspired by DigUp on macOS and self-described as "vibe-coded" but extensively tested.
- Full indexing with EmbeddingGemma 2: semantic or keyword search across photos, screenshots, audio, video, PDFs and Office docs, with page/timestamp matches, multilingual and code search support.
- Quick indexing of filenames across entire drives without the model; both modes combinable and filterable.
- Universal launcher, global hotkey, thumbnails/previews, optional LAN-accessible read-only MCP server for agent access.
- Local disk-backed SQLite with default encryption; one-click model setup, GPU/iGPU/CPU or remote llama-server inference.
- 200 MB RAM with 3,500 fully indexed files plus a million quick-indexed entries; background indexing with idle detection and pause controls.
