Per SCMP, Fields medallist Shing-Tung Yau has launched the Yau Laboratory Alliance for Mathematics and AI in Beijing, aiming to integrate AI into mathematical research. He warned China is lagging behind the US in using AI for frontier science. The alliance brings together eight leading institutions, targets a network of 1,000+ scientists, and will focus on specialized AI models for math, AI-generated conjectures and formalized proofs, and more interpretable reasoning systems.
