Tov: A TypeScript-like language for coding agents that beats Rust in several benchmarks
JosephJacks_ · x · 2026-10-12
Tov (tov.sh) is a new programming language billed as built for coding agents: it's essentially TypeScript syntax (no any/null/==, separate int and f64, fallible calls marked try) that compiles to C via clang, shipping a single native binary.
Official benchmarks: 242k req/s on a one-core JSON API (Rust axum 216k, Bun 111k); concurrent fetch 9% faster than reqwest; binarytrees at 260ms beating Rust/C/Bun/Node; 42ms compiles (2.3× faster than rustc); 1.6MB memory vs Rust's 4.4MB.
The developer says it's only 1 day of work, and built an x264 encoder replacement for @Cap with Tov, up to 8.1× faster. Recommended agent workflow: run tov check -- and apply only "safe" fixes so the agent self-corrects. Currently v0.0.1 experimental.
