Karpathy: LLM capability awareness gap is widening — 75% of people barely touched LLMs

Karpathy re-shared his April tweet arguing the gap in shared understanding of LLM capability is widening, now a sharp funnel:
- Napkin math: 6B people (75% of the population) have barely come in contact with LLMs
- 1-2B (20%) are casual, infrequent users of free-tier ChatGPT-like products — treating them as a better search or writing aid; many non-tech professionals see little use
- The gap has shifted from "two groups talking past each other" to a sharp funnel
Garry Tan quote-shared it, calling this "the greatest alpha fountain in the history of man" — as prices drop, more people will see it and get a chance to bring it to the world.
