Buddy 2.1: open-source Android app lets Claude Code drive your phone on your subscription

An open-source Android app, Buddy 2.1, puts Claude Code or Codex in a floating bubble that can read the screen, tap, type, scroll and open apps on your phone — running on your existing Claude Pro/Max plan with no API key, PC or root. Claude Code runs inside a built-in Alpine Linux (proot) environment and acts through a local MCP server backed by Android's accessibility service, with mandatory human approval before any send/pay/delete.
Highlights:
- No Termux needed anymore; one-tap install and sign-in for Claude Code or Codex
- Mid-task instruction injection without restarting
- Per-app safety levels enforced by the app, not the AI: Trust, Hard (always confirm), Smart (a reviewer model checks taps); the agent can't tap Buddy's own approval cards
- Voice input/readout, built-in Linux terminal, and a developer mode where Claude Code builds and installs Android apps
The project itself was built with Claude Code in Termux on the same OnePlus 12: it wrote the Java, signed APKs, wrote the README and CI, and tested Buddy through Buddy's own MCP phone tools. Requires Android 11+ (64-bit); free APK on GitHub Releases.
