IonQ roadmap could break Bitcoin encryption by 2028, leaving migration too late
jamestagg · x · 2026-10-12
The author argues IonQ's latest roadmap puts quantum breaking of Bitcoin's encryption by end of 2028 within reach, while Bitcoin's design, consensus, implementation and migration will likely take longer — a timing problem. Faster post-quantum implementation is needed now, plus a decision on what happens to coins likely to be left behind, such as Satoshi's.
