Step 5 Preview tops OpenRouter trending; 3D island demo rivals Opus at lower cost
GCWebDesigner · x · 2026-10-12
StepFun's flagship base model Step 5 Preview hit #1 on OpenRouter's trending board just one day after launch. It supports 1M-token context, text+image input, and is designed to let agents complete full tasks from requirement understanding to code edits and verified runs.
User @Sacccc wired it into Claude Code and generated a rotatable, interactive Three.js miniature Nusa Penida island from a reference image — ocean and rocks all code-generated — claiming quality on par with Opus 5.5 at a lower price. The prompt workflow (reference image + explicit interaction spec + iterative refinement) is open-sourced. The model is already integrated into Kilo Code, Cline, Hermes Agent and OpenCode.
