113 AI PM job listings: 69% demand AI experience, only 14 want production-level work
aakashgupta · x · 2026-10-12
The author hand-classified 113 AI Product Manager listings from LinkedIn:
- 69% explicitly require prior AI/ML experience, another 19% ask for familiarity, and only 11% set no AI bar. A softer reading would put the figure around 55%, as 40 rows were judgment calls.
- Plain "Product Manager" listings ask for AI experience almost as often as "AI Product Manager" ones (66% vs 70%) — AI is becoming a default PM requirement.
- Production experience is rare: only 14 of 113 listings (1 in 8) require AI experience in production or at scale.
- Screenshot comparison of three same-week listings (Mattel $140K–$170K with 10+ years; CTW $110K–$185K requiring production LLM apps; Harnham $215K–$240K with 3–5 years) shows up to $75K pay gaps for the same requirement.
The author calls it a Catch-22: every listing wants shipped AI products, but how do you get AI PM experience without having been an AI PM?
