Batch agents expose an infra gap: Batch API can't hit KV cache, so it doesn't actually save money
Instance_Not_Found · reddit · 2026-10-12
Talking to agent builders, the author spots a common pattern: red-team agents attacking agents under test, persona simulation for website testing, and multi-session eval runs—all deferred, non-interactive, batch workloads. Current infra fits poorly: Realtime API lacks cost savings, while Batch API's low price is illusory for agents because it can't hit the KV cache that multi-turn agentic inference depends on. Since batch jobs are predictable, they could fill idle compute and genuinely lower prices—but no provider offers this yet.
