OpenAI's custom hardware exposes raw machine to boost bandwidth, betting AI can write kernels
bingxu_ · x · 2026-10-12
Per @nrehiew: OpenAI's hardware trade-off exposes more of the physical machine to software to maximise effective memory bandwidth, making kernels harder to write — a bet that AI-assisted kernel generation/search can absorb that complexity. Quoter adds: with developer communities gone next year, hardware no longer needs to be human-friendly.
