Ex-OpenAI researcher Diogo Almeida left at ChatGPT's peak, now building TypeSafe AI

Diogo Almeida walked away from OpenAI in 2024 as ChatGPT took over the world — "People thought I was crazy." He feared being personally responsible if AI failed and triggered another AI winter. After helping release ChatGPT, he watched it flood the web with slop, hallucinations, and sycophancy because models were trained to please rather than tell the truth. Back to first principles: economic growth will rely on AI making millions of quick, reliable decisions (ticket routing, fraud flagging), not chat — so he founded TypeSafe AI to target that.
