Netflix says AI touched ~300 titles; director claims 30-40% budget savings

At the Busan International Film Festival, Netflix APAC senior director Lee Sung-gyun said the streamer has used AI in some form on about 300 titles — previs, production design, set-dressing, editorial and VFX — including AI-built crowd scenes for the India title Glory that tight budgets would normally have cut. Director Kang Yoon-sung said AI workflows could cut 30–40% off a feature's budget and made a test clip for The Gulf of Aden entirely with Kling, but warned that removing crew discussion makes AI footage harder to move audiences. Wētā FX CTO Kimball Thurston stressed their award-winning denoiser is assistive AI that cannot alter creative intent. Advice for AI filmmakers: deliberately bring humans back into the loop on rough cuts.
