saccade: A Local-First Python Library for Video Transcripts, Frames, and Semantic Search
Dapper_Ad599 · reddit · 2026-10-11
A Reddit developer released saccade, a local-first Python library built to feed video context into LLM/agent workflows without cloud APIs.
- Motivation: existing options either ship gigabytes of video to third-party cloud APIs (costly, slow, privacy issues) or require a fragile web of FFmpeg commands, Whisper wrappers, and frame samplers.
- Features: transcripts, frame extraction, and timestamped semantic search/Q&A running entirely on local CPU or GPU.
- Minimal usage: Saccade("video.mp4") then video.search("where do they discuss the database setup") or video.ask(...) with timestamped results.
Useful for anyone building local video RAG or agent pipelines.
