Elon Musk confirmed that Terafab will modify existing chipmaking machines and build its own equipment depending on what limits production rate. In the quoted post he argued chip fab equipment is barely customized—everyone buys from the same ASML and third-party vendors—so he plans to start with conventional tools and then deploy custom equipment for much higher wafer throughput, echoing Tesla's approach of heavy in-house tooling.
