Stop Overcomplicating AI Agents: It's Just a Loop, Write It Yourself
alex_verem · x · 2026-10-11
Quoting @mardehaym: an agent is just a loop — give the model a task and a list of tools, the model picks a tool, your code runs it and returns the result, repeat until done. Every framework follows this same basic loop underneath, yet teams spend months comparing them before shipping.
The author suggests writing the loop yourself with plain API calls. He did exactly that this summer for a PE-backed healthcare billing company: instead of experts hand-writing SQL against a legacy schema to answer revenue questions, clients can now ask in plain English.
