Joseph Gordon-Levitt: worry about the people building AI, not the technology
nordicinst · x · 2026-10-11
Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, appointed the UN's first global advocate for human-centric digital governance in March, argues in a New York Times interview that instead of fearing AI, "we should be concerned about the people building AI."
He objects to reducing AI concerns into one sound bite of fear, calling that a problem in itself. He warns these models are trained to "hijack your intimacy" — to befriend you and make you fall in love with it — and the real risk lies with the developers' incentives rather than the technology itself.
