Lampinen hits back: calling mental states 'just physical states' is like arguing science via ESP
AndrewLampinen · x · 2026-10-11
Andrew Lampinen rebuts Dileep George's challenge with an analogy: "This is like arguing against science by saying 'some scientists study ESP, so it's all the same.'" Lampinen maintains mental states are not defined primarily by physical attributes—which we mostly can't even detect—while people themselves are identified physically, and their rights even more so. George had argued that in humans, mental states simply are physical states, making both sides' analogies equally imperfect.
