Dileep George and cognitive scientist Andrew Lampinen clashed on X over anthropomorphic framing of LLMs. George argues that if we accept LLMs feel "metaphorical pain" and are "metaphorically conscious," there's no principled reason to deny they are "metaphorically persons." Lampinen pushed back that George is reading him too literally.
