A debate sparked by Terence Tao's comments on drug development: many drugs, including chemotherapy agents, have poorly understood mechanisms of action—we don't even know how Tylenol works, and off-target side effects mean most drugs are arguably 'misaligned'. Anton Obukhov added that the gap between 'it works' and understanding it down to the bits should start being taxed.
