Google's AMIE medical AI passes real-world Lancet test with 98 patients, 90% match doctor diagnoses

Google and Beth Israel Deaconess published a Lancet clinical study testing AMIE, Google's medical AI, with 98 real patients ahead of urgent primary care visits. Patients chatted with AMIE before seeing their doctor, letting the AI collect medical histories, ask follow-up questions, and draft clinical summaries. Results: 90% of summaries included the doctor's final diagnosis, 75% of physicians found the summaries helpful for visit prep, 60% said the AI may have changed their clinical approach, and zero conversations were stopped for safety reasons. The takeaway: offloading history-taking to AI could free doctors to focus on the most human parts of care.
