Zed CEO's dashboard shows 295M tokens burned by 2 devs in 30 days, mostly cache reads
zeeg · x · 2026-10-11
A public Terra Token Stats dashboard shows Zed CEO Nathan Sobo (zeeg) and collaborator grichadev spent 295M tokens building the Terra project over roughly 30 days.
- zeeg: 272M tokens — 266M cache reads, 4.9M cache writes, only 1.3M output, across 581 messages on claude-opus-5-5
- grichadev: 22.9M tokens — 22.5M cache reads, 119K output, 106 messages
The striking bit: total input tokens were a mere 1.4K while cache reads dwarf everything — a vivid illustration of where AI coding costs actually go under long-context caching: re-reading context, not generating code.
