US Army field-tests humanoid robots at Quantico, picks 5 winners from 103 proposals
CyberRobooo · x · 2026-10-11
The US Army held its xTechHumanoid finals at Marine Corps Base Quantico (Sept 9–10), with nine teams demoing tech and five winners selected as the Army evaluates humanoids for high-risk missions. The only full platform among the winners is IHMC's Alex, shown walking through wooded and rough grassy terrain and digging with a shovel. The author frames it as the US government taking stock of the humanoid robot supply chain: ACES Group (scalable energy storage), Hydroplane (lightweight mobile power generation), Ras Labs (high-sensitivity fingertip tactile sensors), and Velocity Explorations (software translating commander intent into robot actions).
