Musk on acquiring Cursor: AI success needs data, talent, compute and enterprise sales
ns123abc · x · 2026-10-11
Explaining the Cursor acquisition, Musk argued that building a compelling coding AI requires massive coding training data and actually solving coding — and that only OpenAI, Anthropic and Cursor (arguably Google) had enough of that data.
Beyond data, talent and compute, Cursor also brought a strong enterprise sales team with relationships at thousands of companies, which he called a critical piece of the deal.
