Amazon's new Alexa Tablets credibly challenge iPad Air, top model $100 cheaper at $499

Creative Strategies analyst Carolina Milanesi argues Amazon's new Alexa Tablets, announced October 8, are the first Amazon tablets to credibly rival the iPad Air. The top Alexa Tablet 12 Pro starts at $499.99, $100 below the 11-inch iPad Air.
Three key moves:
- Google Play access: fixes the long-standing app gap that kept Fire tablets entertainment-only
- Upgraded hardware: aluminum build with specs that hold up against the iPad Air
- Amazon-only differentiation: Alexa+ built into every model, with On-Screen Intelligence that reads the screen and acts on it (e.g., importing sports schedules into a calendar), plus hands-free Live sessions and screen sharing while browsing
All On-Screen Intelligence features are opt-in by default. Milanesi also sees Amazon Quick giving Amazon a second shot at business users.
