OpenAI to add invisible watermarks to ChatGPT text in the EU for AI Act compliance

OpenAI said it will add invisible watermarks to eligible ChatGPT and Codex text for EU users over the coming weeks to meet EU AI Act labeling rules. API customers anywhere can opt in, and it stays off by default. Anthropic's help page indicates similar watermarking support for Claude models, making hidden watermarks in AI-assisted writing increasingly the norm.
