Anthropic's AI-Native SDLC Playbook: Versioned Intent, Skills for Policy, Hooks for Enforcement
bibryam · x · 2026-10-11
Anthropic published an "AI-native SDLC playbook," arguing code is no longer the bottleneck—but the processes around it haven't kept pace, with the same approval gates, reviews, handoffs and policies stalling gains from agentic coding tools like Claude Code.
The playbook walks through the six traditional SDLC stages (planning, design, building, testing, deploying, maintaining) and how to transform each. Key ideas:
- Versioned intent, specs and plans: treat requirements and designs as trackable, iterable artifacts.
- Skills for policy, hooks for enforcement: express team norms as Skills and enforce them automatically via hooks.
- Continuous evals and gated deployment: embed evaluation in the workflow and gate releases on it.
The original is a 40-minute read with worked examples across all six stages, also available as a downloadable PDF.
