Miles Brundage explains that ASI was traditionally used to distinguish current capabilities from ones that nearly Pareto-dominate humans across dimensions. Using "AI" alone solves nothing, he says, but differentiating (A)SI from not is still valuable — though complicated, since some definitions subsume ASI under AI.
