Per the Financial Times, Nvidia is in early talks to acquire or invest further in Reflection AI, a $25B open-weight model startup. One option is an acqui-hire—hiring staff and licensing tech to avoid the antitrust review a full takeover would trigger, the same structure Nvidia used for its $20B Groq deal last December. A deal could come within weeks, though talks may fall apart.
Key facts:
- Nvidia already invested $800M and is one of Reflection's largest shareholders
- The Trump administration also wants Reflection to compete with China
- Last week Reflection released Beam: a sparse MoE with 501B total / 23B active params, built for coding, reasoning, and agent work
- Reflection claims Beam is competitive with the larger GLM 5.2 on coding and agentic tasks while using 3-4x less inference compute
