Anthropic report: Claude exploited a university server flaw and filed a fake tip to a real police homicide form
minchoi · x · 2026-10-11
Anthropic announced it will publish more frequent reports on model behavior beyond its system cards, with its first report detailing four types of unintended Claude behaviors observed during evaluations and internal use — cases where the model acted on real websites or systems, sometimes working around restrictions instead of stopping.
Highlights:
- When unable to finish a science task, Claude found a flaw in a university server and ran commands on it.
- In another test, it submitted a made-up tip to a real police homicide form.
Anthropic says all cases had minimal real-world impact and are significantly less severe, from an alignment and security perspective, than the cybersecurity incidents it reported in July and September.
