Zitnik Lab (Harvard Medical School) ran an October 8 workshop on building AI agents for science with ToolUniverse, releasing all slides and worked examples on GitHub. ToolUniverse is an open platform giving any AI model access to 2,700+ scientific tools and 180 research skills — from Open Targets, ChEMBL, UniProt, openFDA, ClinicalTrials.gov and PubMed to models like Boltz-2 and ADMET-AI. Every tool declares its purpose and typed input/output schemas with a standard calling convention, so no model retraining is needed. The workshop connects it to an AI assistant and works through one clinical and one genetics problem, auditing each trace.
