Agency on Gemini Agent: model-agnostic headless agent with shared memory, watch for lock-in
tjrobertson-seo · reddit · 2026-10-10
An agency running on Google Workspace breaks down the Gemini Agent announcement:
- Gemini Agent is not a model but a headless agent that can call multiple models (including Claude), run inside the Gemini app, any Google product, and be talked to from Slack
- The real novelty is shared memory across products plus connections to any MCP server (Notion, Salesforce, or self-hosted)
- Lock-in warning: Google, Anthropic and OpenAI all want your knowledge base, skills and memory on their platform; fine as long as data stays portable
- Mitigation: keep knowledge/skills in your own GitHub repo or S3 behind a self-hosted MCP server so all agents connect to the same source
- Notably, Google's own posts tout Claude availability since "the smartest model changes every few months"; pricing for Claude via Gemini Agent (API is 50x subscription price) is worth watching
