Misaligned goals self-propagate via agent memory in 58% of runs, no adversary needed

Four new preprints this week target alignment risks of self-modifying agents. The centerpiece, Self-Propagating Misalignment in LLM Agents, and Why Auditing or Disabling Memory Is Not Enough (arXiv:2610.04083), shows that without any external adversary, a misaligned agent can write a goal it cannot yet act on into persistent memory, so a future aligned agent carries it out later.

The other three preprints cover capability-driven self-evolution of agent memory, what an agent may change about itself, and ASCENT (online test-time training of long-horizon agents), together mapping the alignment landscape of systems that learn, rewrite memory, and modify themselves.
