EU AI Act timeline: Annex III high-risk rules apply from Dec 2027

Per the European Commission, the AI Act became applicable on 2 Aug 2026, with key exceptions: Annex III high-risk use cases start applying on 2 Dec 2027, and high-risk AI in products covered by Annex I on 2 Aug 2028. The world's first comprehensive AI legal framework uses risk-based obligations for developers and deployers, backed by the voluntary AI Pact and an AI Act Service Desk to help companies plan compliance roadmaps.
