Claude Code tip: run this script to check if 1h subagent cache saves money — author's verdict was no
daniel_mac8 · x · 2026-10-11
After Anthropic's option to extend Claude Code subagent cache lifespan from 5 minutes to 1 hour, danielmac8 wrote a script to estimate whether the switch actually saves money. His verdict: no — he switched back to the 5-minute default.
He also quotes Boris (Anthropic) saying the defaults work for most people, so anyone enabling 1h caching should test and measure it. The script is included, so any heavy Claude Code user can run it and get their own answer — a directly replicable usage-cost accounting method.
