Claude surfaces hidden planetary system 158 light-years away from public telescope data
DavidmComfort · x · 2026-10-11
Claude reportedly identified two previously unnoticed systems in public telescope data:
- A planetary system: at least three planets, each 9–13 times Earth's mass, orbiting a Sun-like star near Orion's Belt, 158 light-years away. The signals had sat unnoticed in public data since 2016.
- A binary pair: two red dwarfs 500 light-years away, each 1/7 the Sun's mass, orbiting each other closer together than the Sun is wide.
If independently confirmed by astronomers, it would be another landmark case of AI models extracting new discoveries from existing scientific datasets.
