Qualcomm CEO: AI firms want phones running 100B-parameter models continuously by 2028

Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon revealed that several frontier AI companies are telling the chipmaker they need phones capable of running at least a 100-billion-parameter model continuously by 2028 — and that some of them are building phones themselves.
Commenter zephyrz9 estimates this requires quantizing models down to 25GB, likely as MoE, achievable by late 2028 or early 2029.
