Should math journals accept OpenAI's model-generated proofs? A heated community debate
RexDouglass · x · 2026-10-10
Arguing against accepting OpenAI's model-generated papers, @m4h007 says the math community's stance should be: "We're not accepting these papers as finished work." Whoever makes a claim bears the burden of convincing the community via presentations and verifiable evidence — "until that moment, you just have a claim." A proof being mathematically correct differs from being accepted as correct.
Rex Douglass adds that academia is struggling to reconcile its edutainment-based culture with an industrialized AI process that strips out the fun — similar end states, without the entertainment.
