Factory owners: skip humanoid robots, AI visual inspection on existing hardware is the real win
CyberRobooo · x · 2026-10-10
In an X discussion, a factory owner said plants don't urgently need five-fingered, bipedal humanoids — foundation models for industrial visual inspection are far closer to real deployment. Another operator who runs a CNC machining business agreed: factories already have reliable CNC machines, industrial robots and automation; what's missing is intelligence on top of that hardware.
- Having AI understand engineering drawings, tolerances, surface defects, and processes delivers measurable ROI, unlike humanoid robotics
- Existing tech (YOLO, RT-DETR, VLMs) is already tackling parts of this
- The real challenge: going from "One Model, One Part" to "One System, Many Parts"
