Alibaba Cloud pulls DeepSeek, Kimi, GLM and MiniMax models, pushing devs to Qwen

Per Milk Road, Alibaba Cloud stopped serving DeepSeek, Kimi K2, GLM and MiniMax models on October 10, frustrating Chinese AI developers. These are among the most widely used open-weight models in the world, and every project built on them must now migrate — with Alibaba suggesting its own Qwen as the replacement.
The take: Alibaba is trying to own both the cloud and model layers in China at once. If it works, Qwen gets a massive usage boost and Alibaba keeps far more AI spend inside its ecosystem.
