Claude Code subagent cache only lasts 5 minutes — set subagentPromptCacheTtl to avoid overpaying
daniel_mac8 · x · 2026-10-10
Daniel (danielmac8) flags a costly default in Claude Code: subagent prompt cache lives only 5 minutes, so any subagent idle past that loses cache pricing and re-pays full token rates. The fix is setting "subagentPromptCacheTtl": 1h in your config (he corrected his earlier syntax). For heavy multi-agent orchestration workflows, this one setting can save real money.
