DigUp: open-source Mac app runs EmbeddingGemma 2 locally to search files by content
A-Rahim · reddit · 2026-10-10
DigUp is a free, MIT-licensed Mac app that runs Google DeepMind's new EmbeddingGemma 2 locally to index text, images, audio and video in one embedding space, so you can search by description:
- "zebra in a video" jumps to the moment it appears; "where they talk about sleep" opens that podcast minute; "the clause about pets in the lease" shows the PDF page with your words marked; searches also work in Bengali or Arabic; code: retry with backoff opens the function in your editor.
Tech details: ggml-org's Q80 GGUF (865 MB, one-time download) on llama.cpp with Metal in a native Swift app, no Python. Search loads only the 250 MB text encoder and returns results 0.1s after you stop typing; indexing peaks under 2 GB; audio/video handled as 30s windows. Fully local, requires Apple Silicon and macOS 14+.
