Distributor clarifies 8-GPU PCIe expander: no slapping a 9th GPU off one slot
TheZachMueller · x · 2026-10-10
Zach Mueller shares a clarification on the 8-GPU PCIe expansion board (two PCIe switches, one x16 slot): per the distributor, the auxiliary direct-connect outputs only work if hooked to the matching host connectors.
So his idea of adding a 9th GPU off a single PCIe slot doesn't work; keeping the cascade setup requires going through another direct with an additional retimer.
